What's is in our food? It's a fact that over 50 countries including France, Germany and Italy have banned Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's) in their food supply. The US does not even require labeling! Most American consumers, including moms, haven't been told about some of the ingredients that are in the food they eat. According to a recent poll 92% of Americans support labeling genetically engineered foods. There are two excellent grassroots initiatives currently working to change the tide on our right to know what's in our food.
Ballot proposition # 37, up for a vote in California this November is gaining quite a groundswell of support. The first of its kind, this ballot proposition would require labeling on GMO products sold in California which are found in essentially most non-organic processed foods with corn or soy as ingredients. http://www.carighttoknow.org/
The Just Label it campaign is a national campaign urging consumers to take action by getting petition comments sent directly to the FDA to label GMO products. To date there have been over one million comments sent in support of this labeling! http://justlabelit.org/
Who could be against such a basic right to know what we eat?
Big Processed Food: Next in line, Coke, Pepsi, Kraft, Nestle, and other big processed food manufacturers are staking their brand names with the opposition, and against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of their consumers. These are the same companies who are already providing information about genetic engineering to consumers in 49 other countries, but not in their own country.
Take a leadership role for the Right to Know what's in Our Food! The stakes are high as a victory or defeat will set a huge precedence for either side! These initiatives affect you, your family and your customers. Become educated on the subject and get involved.
