Baby Turnips
Turnips are ancient, one of the oldest cultivated root crops in the world. Also called Tokyo turnips, baby turnips are beautiful, tender little globes with spicy, pleasant-bitter greens attached that can also be enjoyed. Baby turnips are available in the spring and early summer before prolonged heat turns turnips bitter and woody. These spring and early summer turnips have delicate, shiny skins and tender flesh. Cut baby turnips into wedges and enjoy them raw with a dip or shave them into a salad. Pickle them in a sweet and salty brine. Sauté or stir-fry baby turnips with their greens.
Carmody
Family owned and operated, Bellwether Farms is located in Sonoma County, California, about an hour north of San Francisco, and a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. Carmody was inspired by the Callahan family’s 1996 trip to Italy. There they had an opportunity to watch Gorgonzola being made near Milan. In one of the aging rooms there were small wheels of cheese on an out of the way shelf. Inspired by this they created Carmody, a beautiful cow’s milk cheese that highlights the cream and taste of the fresh milk.
Munster
French Munster Cheese is the defining cheese of the Alsace region of Northeastern France. When ripe this cheese is soft and rich, with a deep umami flavor like beef, roasted peanuts, onions, butter and straw. It is funky, and wonderfully so. Perfect to enjoy with an herby cracker or hoppy beer!
