Item Highlights
Navel Oranges
Navel oranges are a winter orange with thick, bright orange skin and sweet, juicy fruit. Navel oranges can be used in baking, including their zest and their juice, as well as for flavoring sauces and marinades, and can be cut up and served in salads. Navel oranges have a sweet flavor, which is balanced with tanginess and tartness, but without too much acidity. Navel oranges contain a compound called limonin, which, when exposed to oxygen, can produce bitter or sour flavors. But this usually requires 30 minutes or so of exposure to oxygen. Therefore, sliced or peeled navel oranges eaten within this time frame shouldn’t be affected.
Pecorino Romano
This ancient cheese is made from 100% sheep’s milk collected in the countryside of Rome and produced in Nepi, 15 miles north of the city. Aged 10 months to 1 year and coated in black wax per tradition, Fulvi is in a class by itself. What separates Fulvi from other Pecorino Romanos is the higher butterfat content of the whole (not skimmed) sheep’s milk from Lazio, making it less dry and hard than those made in Sardinia. The cheese is also less salty, allowing you to enjoy its rich flavor grated or eaten as is. Even a small amount will create a hearty flavor to enhance your favorite dish.
Beer Hops Cheddar
This local pasturized cow’s milk cheese using beer hops found naturally growing at the farm, they cured a special reserved Aged White Cheddar. The flavor is smooth, slightly floral and hoppy like a good IPA. Put this on your cheeseboard, and it will impress both beer drinkers and non-beer drinkers alike.
Ras El Hanout
Villa Jerada’s unique mélange of organic herbs is unlike anything Ras el Hanout you will find. They’ve mixed fourteen ingredients thoughtfully sourced from around the world to create a blend that brings a subtle floral hint of rose and lavender mixed with fragrant spices of cardamom, galangal, mace, saffron, fennel and monk pepper to obtain the perfect mix for Mrouzia (Moroccan lamb confit) the traditional dish that Ras el Hanout it is mainly used for. Fused with the signature of generations past to compliment the global palate of today. Add a touch of complexity with savory, sweet, zesty flavors to a multitude of dishes.
