A Note From The Founder
As we embark upon our 31st year in business, I have been reflecting on our evolution as a place for our neighbors and friends to discover good food from near and far. Food that is produced with great care, passion and integrity, by people who care about your experience, health and enjoyment; as they care about the land, crops, animals, and traditions that they cherish and nurture to preserve their craft and their way of life. A way of life that we are so fortunate to be connected to in enriching our own lives, every time we eat.
When we opened, on August 20, 1993, we proffered food we knew about: fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh flowers and freshly baked Italian style bread. As we evolved and discovered so much more good food that was not then available in Salt Lake City, we have always sought to discover the most traditional and authentic producers of a given food item and found a way to get it to our shelves for our customers, no matter how far it must travel.
Now, our offering includes far more than I may include in a blog post (be on the lookout for more posts about specific traditional foods and the people who make them). We are honored to have been able to share such delicious, authentic food with our neighbors for so many years.
The relationships with many of our producers has, and continues to be, the soul of our corner market, and not a day goes by that those relationships, and those of so many wonderful people who have worked in our store these past thirty years, has enriched our lives and made us better merchants of good food. Much like the many relationships with each of our guests. Relationships we cherish.
For me, it is a privilege to nurture and grow a small, good food business on our little corner of Salt Lake City. As it continues to be fulfilling, working with a team of committed people who care about good food, as they care about you and care about each other.
30 years is a lifetime of many harvest seasons, holiday celebrations and, sometimes, heartbreaks. All experiences that make a life worth living. We have seen many kind and thoughtful farmers and food makers come and go. We have experienced gains and losses, pivoting with the times as our neighborhood and city evolved and when economic circumstances impacted us all. We have gained a great deal of wisdom from everyone who has crossed our path or entered our store, and for this we are full of gratitude.
We look forward to the next 30 years of nurturing existing friendships, discovering new ones, humbly sharing what we have learned over the years about what is good food, the people who make it, and the love that goes into every bit and bite to soothe your taste buds and warm your soul as we endeavor to continue to bring good things to eat to our little corner of Salt Lake City.
Thank you to our customers for keeping this little slice of heaven a reality in our community. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to celebrate and savor the producers and flavors that have been on our shelves for the last three decades.
Always Eat Well!
